Chicory can be bad when consumed in excessive amounts, as it may cause digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Additionally, some people may be allergic to chicory, experiencing symptoms such as itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. It is important to consume chicory in moderation and be aware of any potential allergies or sensitivities to avoid adverse effects. **

Chicory should be stored in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. It is best to wrap the chicory in a damp paper towel and then place it in a plastic bag to help maintain its crispness. Stored this way, chicory can last for up to a week in the refrigerator. It is important to keep chicory away from ethylene-producing fruits and vegetables, as they can cause it to spoil more quickly. **

A good substitute for chicory is endive, which has a similar slightly bitter flavor and crunchy texture. Radicchio is another option, with its bitter taste and vibrant red color. Both endive and radicchio can be used in salads, as a topping for pizzas, or grilled as a side dish. Another alternative is dandelion greens, which have a similar bitter flavor and can be used in salads or sautéed as a side dish. **

As an AI language model, I don't have personal taste preferences, but I can tell you that iceberg lettuce and chicory have different flavors and textures. Iceberg lettuce is known for its mild, crisp, and watery taste, while chicory has a slightly bitter and earthy flavor. Some people may find similarities in their taste, but they are distinct in their own right. It ultimately comes down to individual taste perception. **

To reduce the bitter taste of chicory, you can try soaking the leaves in cold water for about 30 minutes before using them. This can help to mellow out the bitterness. Additionally, you can try blanching the chicory in boiling water for a few minutes, then immediately transferring it to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Finally, you can also try adding a bit of sweetness, such as honey or maple syrup, to your chicory dish to balance out the bitterness. **

Chicory now rots from the inside instead of the outside due to a genetic modification that has been introduced to the plant. This modification causes the plant to produce an enzyme that breaks down the cell walls from the inside, leading to internal rotting. This change was made to help the plant resist certain pests and diseases that typically attack from the outside. **
